Tom Harrell Quartet "Moving Picture"

Harrell's latest project is a quartet comprising long-time associates Danny Grissett on keys, Ugonna Okegwo on bass and Adam Cruz on drums. A studio recording was made in the south of France in September 2016 for release in 2017. The repertoire boasts some of Harrell's most daring and mind-blowing compositions to date. The quartet is available for touring in the spring of 2017 and later.

Tom Harrell Chamber Ensemble "First Impressions"

Harrell's project with his chamber ensemble celebrates the special affinity jazz music has to the works of Debussy and Ravel. Harrell's own interpretation of the composers' works will be performed by a nine-piece chamber ensemble consisting of violin, cello, flutes, tenor/soprano saxes, trumpet/flugelhorn, piano, bass and drums. A new album, FIRST IMPRESSIONS will be released on September 18, 2015 followed by a week at the Village Vanguard starting October 6.

TRIP is a quartet featuring Mark Turner on tenor sax, Ugonna Okegwo on bass and Adam Cruz on drums with a 2014 album release with the same name. The band first debuted in October of 2013 when it premiered a suite Harrell wrote specifically for this group for Dave Douglas' Festival of New trumpet Music. TRIP performed at the Village Vanguard and the Jazz Standard in New York and toured internationally in the summer of 2015. TRIP will continue to tour intermittently going forward.

Tom Harrell COLORS OF A DREAM

Harrell explores new textures and grooves with COLORS OF A DREAM, a two-bass (and piano-less) sextet with three horns and drums. An album by the same name was released in 2013 followed by summer tours in 2015. The personnel on the recording and 2014 tours includes Jalleel Shaw (alto sax) and Esperanza Spalding (bass and vocal) as well as his long-time musical partners Wayne Escoffery (tenor sax), Johnathan Blake (drums) and Ugonna Okegwo (bass). Harrell will reprise a new edition of the group in 2016, this time with Lionel Loueke on guitar and vocal.

Harrell as soloist and arranger is no stranger to the big band medium. He brings years of experience with Stan Kenton, Woody Herman and Mel Lewis to performances with big bands. More recently, he has performed as featured guest soloist/arranger with Lincoln Center's Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, Danish Radio Big Band, WDR Big Band, Salerno Jazz Orchestra, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, and Concertgebouw Jazz Orchestra. Repertoire includes Harrell's own arrangements from his Grammy-nominated album, TIME'S MIRROR, and his more recent works recorded for radio broadcast by the Danish Radio Big Band.
